Discord walks back NFT and cryptocurrency plans
Discord has walked back its plans for NFT and cryptocurrency integration, according to its CEO and founder Jason Citrus medica.
"Thanks for all the perspectives everyone," he tweeted. "We consume no current plans to send off this internal construct. For now we'rhenium focused on protecting users from spam, scams and fraud. Web3 has lots of good but also stacks of problems and we need to run through at our scale. More shortly."
Rumors about the desegregation plans began cooking earlier this calendar week when an nonmodern survey sent to Discordance users regarding NFTs resurfaced online. This was followed by Citrus medica tweeting a screenshot display an unreleased integration for ii different cryptocurrency wallet apps. Accordant to an ex officio program line made to TechCrunch, these features were part of a regular company-wide "hack week," and were not in active development.
Neither the surveil nor the screenshot were acceptable alright, with Discord's subreddit untidy with pleas to dump the plans and many the great unwashe across social media encouraging users to cancel their Discord Nitro subscriptions.
"We're excited about the expected for web3 technology and the positive shipway these communities are merging on Discord, especially those organized round environmentally friendly, creator-focused projects," Discord told TechCrunch. "However, we also recognize there are some problems we need to work through."
Some current Disaccord employees took to Twitter to express their frustration in the wake of Citron's tweets, suggesting that cryptocurrency integration was not supported past everyone at the company. "I go for leaders can meekly listen to the chorus line of intense moral churn up this puzzle has already invited,'' another employee wrote. "This sincerely yours does not consume to happen."

Sounds wish while Strife isn't going through with the wallet consolidation just yet, there's still a very existent chance NFTs and crypto will hit the service at some point in the future. It's unclear exactly what the tipping point was for it fashioning the u-turn, though it's unlikely the Nitro boycott and backfire from its own staff went unnoticed.
Gaming companies like Ubisoft, EA, Zynga, and Square Enix have recently started to talk about their approach to NFTs and blockchain games. The reactions to the news have been controversial tending the amount of uncertainness in the space.
